shorthand, photographic installation and sculptural works (work-in-progress)

I asked my mother to transcribe my recent rejection letters into shorthand. I filmed her writing, and then edited the footage into a series of cropped images which I then printed on large-format paper. As a final act of translation, I sent my mother the crops, and she responded with the language she could discern, which became the titles of each work. The installation includes a few arrangements of variously-scaled digital prints which I anchored along the red line that runs down the middle of the Steno pad that my mother was writing on.

I continued to develop this project by printing the images on transparency film and displaying them on a lightbox that I built with my dad.
